Tiran Island – Jazirat Tiran, Aka Jeziret Tiran and Yotvat Island
Tiran Island is called Jazeera-e-teeran in Arabic language. It is situated in between the red sea and the Gulf of Aqaba on the Tiran straits. It is an 80 square kilometer wide island.
It has been added to the Egypt formally and is under the administration of Egypt now. One of the main issues about the Tiran Island is that Saudi Arabia has claimed about it saying that Tiran Island is the part of Saudi Arabia.
Right now the Tiran Island is the part of the famous national park of Egypt. It has a great strategic and geographic importance being in the middle of the one of the most important trade routes of Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the Israel.
This route goes to the sea port of Jordan, Aqaba and the Eilat sea port of Israel. In the year 1967 Egypt blocked the narrow go through of the Tiran Island on the straits of the Tiran which resulted into the six day war with Israel.
During the war Israel conquered it and took control over the Tiran Island but now it is under the control of the military forces of Egypt along with the troops of multinational force and observers.
Chisholm is the main point in the island. The way used to go to the island is the link between Egypt and Saudi Arabia. It is full of nature and one of the most amazing natural destinations of the country.
It has been called a pure paradise by the visitors which have has many to offer from river banks to beaches. The Tiran Island is famous for its sports that take place under the water such as swimming as its water is clear and pure which attracts thousands of underwater sports men and hence is a popular tourist spot.
